Dana's Story
After graduating from Redwood in 1978, I attended UC Davis, where I earned a BA in English and met my husband, Randy Ferris. I went on to earn a MA and Ph.D in Applied Linguistics at the University of Southern California and became a university professor. I’m currently a professor in the University Writing Program at UC Davis. I’ve written nine books and numerous articles in my field (teaching writing and reading to second language learners). Randy and I will celebrate our 40th anniversary in June 2023. We have two adult daughters. We’ve been living in Davis since 1991. When not working, I enjoy following the San Francisco Giants, the Golden State Warriors, USC football, and the San Francisco 49ers. I write a weekly column called “Out of Left Field” about the Giants for a fan site called Together We’re Giants under the pen name of “DrLefty.” I also like cooking, traveling, and watching movies.
