Dana's Story

These kind of questions always throw me for a loop. About me?? hmmm.....I'm sure what I think of myself is different than what I appear to others, but I hope my desires are at least seen, even though I fall short of what I would like to be. I am a middle aged woman who has begun to feel it the last 2 years or so. I am many things to many people: a Wife to Bruce for 29 years, a Mother to Jason, Jarod and Miranda since I was 17, a Grandmother (Mimi) to Mara, Kade, Cayman, Kai, Keira, Jackson, and Kase. Those 3 titles take up little space on paper, but in my life and in my heart they are all consuming! My relationship with the Lord began at the age of 8 when I invited Him into my life and my heart. Since that time I have learned from Him and ignored Him, loved Him and hated Him, praised Him and cursed Him. In that same time period, He has loved me patiently and fiercely, never giving up on me...for which I am grateful beyond words. It is this most precious of relationships that I strive to base all others on. I try to treat others as I want to be treated and have a gift of compassion, which makes it fairly easy for me to meet people where they are, no matter how low that may seem to others. I am thankful for this gift because relationships are everything to me and I NEVER give up on those I love! My life has been filled to the brim with blessings and I have known pain that I thought I might not live through. The loss of my daughter Miranda on May 12, 2006 is a moment that I can unfortunately recall with just the slightest thought. Even though I have worked hard to move past it, I am certain that I will never get over it. It has tested my faith and the very foundation of my beliefs....but as certain as I am that it will always be painful and I will miss her to my dying breath, I am just as certain that I will see her again! She is in a place that God is preparing for those of us that have given Him our lives and our hearts. Heaven! It's gonna be awesome!! My sons Jason and Jarod are .....??? Gosh, what do I even say? They are my boys! My sons!....and I love them more than life and am so proud of them! Two men who could not be more different...yet both have hearts of gold and I know I can always count on them. The women they chose as wives, I also consider my kids. Angela and Rachel are both beautiful inside and out and Thank God they have the patience and endurance to be the "spiritual sandpaper" to my sons that they need....rubbing off the rough edges that make them into bett...Expand for more
er men! :) They are awesome wives and mothers and I am so thankful for them....I love them both! My relationship with Miranda's former husband Edwin, and his wife Michelle is also one of those most important of relationships. Even though Edwin is not really my son-in-law anymore, he will always be in my eyes. Michelle has been embraced by our family and we are so thankful for her. She is not only a needed part, but also a desired part of our family and we love them both very much. My grandchildren are just the center of attention in our lives. Everything else kind of radiates out from them. I love spending time with them and letting them just be kids because they have already been through alot in their short lives and I know that adulthood and responsibilities are just around the corner. Each one of them holds a special place in my heart and I hope they all think they're Mimi's favorite! haha (because they truly are!!) I love seeing my own kids in each of their sweet faces...... Love those Grandkids!! My husband Bruce is truly my best friend. He is my rock and I know how fortunate I am to have that type of love and security in a relationship. There are lots of things that I worry about from time to time, but my relationship with Bruce is not one of them. He married me with 3 small children and he has been there for us all every step of the way....and some of them were pretty darn tough!! He is my partner and I love him and am so thankful for him! My daily life is filled with simple things. I love my home and the Hill Country that we live in. I love to decorate and Bruce is a very skilled do-it-yourselfer. I come up with the ideas and he finds a way to make them a reality. We have redone every room in our house with the exception of the kitchen. Hopefully we will get to that one soon! I love animals...always have. We have 4 dogs and 4 cats....waaaay too many animals!...but I love them just the same! They are great company and always are giving that unconditional love! My parents are close and I am so blessed to still have them with me. They are the backbone of our family and I couldn't have asked for better role models. My sisters and our extended family is a huge part of our lives. We always look forward to any family gathering with great anticipation! Well, that's about it! If you're reading this, then I consider you a friend....and I would be very remiss if I left out saying that ..My friends are very important to me and I thank you for your friendship! God Bless!
