Dana's Story
Let's start with 1968- The summer of 1968 was the era where my family left Duluth to move to Florida while my father went to Viet Nam. Summer on the beach was great. I started my senior year at Hollywood Hills High School and finished in 1969. My father returned safe and we moved to New Jersey where I got a job working on Fort Dix across from the hospital. I remember vividly the soldiers at the Hospital as they returned from Viet Nam fresh off the battlefield. Grim. Draft time was close so I enlisted in the Air Force in January of 1970. The draft missed me, oh well! Who knew? I spent the next 4 years as a mechanic traveling the states and the world (South East Asia and Pacific). I left the Air Force in Dec of 1973 and lived in North Carolina for a short period, got married and had two daughters (Charmin and Dana Renee'). I took a couple of years of collage while there and went to Florida to look for a job. Had a number of them and was working for the city of St Petersburg when my wife wanted me to go back into the Air Force in 1978 and I ...Expand for more
did. I became and air traffic controller. We got divorced in 1979 while living in Upper Michigan (K. I. Sawyer, AFB). Long winters? I met my second wife while separated from my first and we were married in 1980. Her son Joshua (who is now a musician) became my son and we had another (Brian, now in Army) later that year, long winter! We moved to England(RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge). We spend almost four years there and then moved to Las Vegas, NV, for four years. While there I had a career change to recreation management and then we moved to Panama City, Florida. From there we went to Spain then to New York where I retired from the Air Force in 1993 and moved to St Petersburg, Fla. I tried to remain retired but my wife wouldn't have it. If she had to work so did I. I then went for the next best thing, security officer. Easy work. I eventually landed a job working for Raytheon (defense contractor) as a security specialist protecting company and government secrets. I'm still here today only working for Allied Barton Security (got out-sourced).
