Jim's Story
Just as all others, I miss friends I grew up with and class mates. It's true we were all crazy in our younger years. I left Rome to return but never did except for one visit around 1972. I miss it as the slogan goes, "Rome is Home". I did grow up in Rome so that is home...... From Rome to Virginia for the first few months. Then moved to Tennessee. Was 1973 I moved to North Carolina and been here since with my settled down life being married since 72. I started with driving big rig, not knowing exactly where I wanted to put my options at that time. But that got old, especially with missing my 2 year son. So I then got into being my own boss and opened garage, gas and diesel mechanic. (That's something I favored from my Rome years as I worked for, at that time, my girl friend...Expand for more
s father and brother). I was in that profession for a number of years but started thinking of benefits that I needed to consider, especially with my own family now. And it's for sure that I did not care for the "overhead" in garage work. I called it quits and went back to trucking. I drove big rig until I had to take early disability retirement. I still miss it after driving the 48 states and Canada for 25+ years. I just enjoyed and miss seeing the country and meeting friends in every state. But after the 5th. heart attack along with lung disease and being diabetic the doctors called it quits for me. (I'm sure that was a result of living in the "fast lane" during my younger years). I do miss the free life but I am enjoying my grand kids. Best ever to every one,,,,,,,,,,,,Jim
