Daniel's Story
Finally joined this thing (on my 68th birthday Feb. 12, 2014)...so here it is briefly. Early marriage while in college (journalsim/marketing UT-Austin), two kids (grown) and four grandkids, a divorce, over 20 years single (roughly 40-64) and second marriage in 2010. Majority of career in management with large Houston energy company (public affairs, advertising, quality assurance, marketing, assistant to CEO, etc.). Long since retired, younger wife still works. Hobbies: offshore fishing, bird hunting and shotguns, boating, travel, reading/writing primarily. Politically atuned and conservative (you expected otherwise from a Texas boy?).
Came back to Park Forest two summers when in college, after that only few visits...20th reunion (FUN and astonishing how quickly the memories of friendship flooded back) and a biz trip; then attended 50th and 55th reunions. In retrospect, appreciated the nice, safe little cocoon that we grew up in and glad I grew up when I did...believe it would be much tougher for kids today and decidedly wouldn't live in PF today. After Chuck Watts and Jim Glennon died very early, lost touch with virtually everyone; only to reconnect with Gordon Disheroon, Rick Hopper and Phil Goldman less than 10 years ago. God willing and the creek don't rise...will attempt to attend next get together.

Time passes. Lost Nancy Watson a couple of years back prior to impromptu “55th reunion”. Lost Larry Alsbrook a few months back to cancer. During the year-long Wuhan corona virus “ pandemic”, I’ve used the down time to call/visit with a large number of classmates...mostly enjoyable, though a couple were a bit ragged from the prolonged lockdown. Survived a quad bypass surgery in mid-2020, then turned 75 this February. Amazed I’ve lasted this long and, in general, not displeased with what life has provided.
In 2021, after recovering from my bypass surgery Carol and I moved to Ocala, FL. She’d taken a job as Controller for a thoroughbred horse racing farm. Nice little town, stunningly beautifully 650-acre farm. Within a month, I sensed this wasn’t going to work out. The farm’s owner, and apparently the local biz community in general, were a tad provincial. That’s a polite way of saying they had little capability (indeed, much interest) in how to handle a very independent female with Ivy undergraduate and MBA DEGREES. Thus, after 9 months, I came back to Houston, located an appropriate house to buy in the ‘burbs. We’re located in Seabrook Texas…outside Houston, a quarter mile from Galveston Bey, 5 minutes from NASA and 4 minutes from where I dock my boat. We love it. Phone remains the same, as does my email.
