Daniel's Story
Hi there everybody!
After HS I hung around Sptbg a little while working at A&P. Then I moved to the big city Atlanta which I always had wanted to do. Had a neat job there as a mechanic on fill machines that put condiments, no not condoms...you know ketchup and stuff, into those little plastic pouches. Then wound up "crawling back" to Sptbg 'cause I was spending as much as I was making! What was a budget!?!
Anyway got a fantastic job at CATCO in Sptbg repairing and installing restaurant equipment and after a year or so decided to try the USAF in 1981. I wound up in Frankfurt, Germany, another big city I loved, for 3 years as a Aircraft Mechanic on C130, C9, and T39's. I also had a part time job at the base theater there as the Asst Mgr. Then to Sacramento, CA for a year as a Crew Chief on C130's. I also had two part time side jobs there working for two different fellas from the off base church I was going to. One was a house painter and the other an Australian entomologist, we trapped and dissected Fruit Flies after treating fruit orchards with non pesticide pheromone strips. The pheromone was suppose to confuse the male fly so he couldn't mate with the female and deposit her eggs into the fruit, eventually destroying it.
Mid 1985 I got out of the USAF after my four year hitch and went to work for St. Lucia Airways, based out of Miami as a Flight Mechanic. My first trip with them was four months in Khartoum, Sudan for a World Food Program. What an eye opening experiance to the third world!!! Other cool places I spent several months in were St Lucia, Zaire (The Congo), Angola, Ethiopia, Belgium, and Tenerife. Then that company went bust and I wound up here in Crestview, FL back in mid '87. Been here ever since still working in aviation, 18 years with Tepper Aviation as a flight mechanic traveling all over the world with the a...Expand for more
irplane and loving it! Then got burned out on "bag dragging" all the time.
So then I tried the Military contract world for three years and found it sucked.
Now I'm at Segers Aero Corp still in Crestview at a jet engine facility as a Test Cell Operator and Inspector. I don't plan on going anywhere else, it's just too good!!! EDIT 2020: Well turns out Segers didn't appreciate me doing my job as the test cell inspector and telling them I thought their quality was going down. So they showed me the door in July of 2018! After a six month "vacation" I came to Greenville, SC as a contractor at Lockheed Martin - Donaldson Center (SCTAC). That has turned into a direct hire job as of Feb 2020. I enjoy it at LM working on the "legacy" Hercules again and being back in the upstate.
I hold three FAA licenses, Airframe, Powerplant, and Inspection Authorization (A&P/IA)
I got married in 1988 to a Louisiana Bayou girl,Joanne. We met in Miami in '86 and started dating. We have two boys Danny (1989) and Joey (1992). Still married to her, my 1st & only wife. EDIT: Oh well, no longer married as of 08 May 2018! My son Danny is now in Tryon, NC (01/2020) and Joey is in the Navy stationed in San Diago (11/17).
I still have my old Firebird convertible that I drove at SHS. Finished a 7 year restoration on it in late 1993 and still enjoying that ol' 'bird! I've had 20+ muscle and classic cars (mostly Pontiacs) over the years but now I'm down to "just" three! The '68 Firebird, '73 Grand Prix SJ, and a '30 Ford Model A coupe. EDIT: well the 'ol Firebird is gone as well as the GP, but the Model A survived the divorce.
Oh well I didn't mean to write book, sorry, I guess in a "nut shell" I'm just trying to say I've had great life experiences and continue to so. Now if I could just win the lotto........
