Daniel's Story
Life
After graduation from UHS I spent four years at Hofstra University pursuing a career in education with an emphasis in educating children with speech, hearing and communication disorders. I was fortunate to have a great college experience in education and athletics where I played baseball and soccer. I was team captain of a championship soccer team in '68 and made the cut in my super senior year for the "69 football team as the first "soccer style" kicker. My educational component included student teaching at Massapequa High School and student supervisor in speech and language pathology for the mentally retarded at AHRC located in Brookville. Those events and others paved the way for my baseball coaching at Lawrence Road Junior High School and soccer coaching at Hofstra University. I spent the next six years coaching Varsity soccer with less success than when I was a player. During the next 10 years, I was honing my skills as a teacher while completing my masters degree. Subsequently, II was influenced by local politics and government in Nassau County and decided to become involved. I secured a position as Special Assistant to the County Executive and while in Public Service ventured into elected politics. I campaigned for the New York State Assembly in '84, a harrowing but formative experience. I was unsuccessful in that bid and later returned to education. I started over in the New York City Public School system. I continued my education at New York University and received a Masters...Expand for more
degree in Ed. Administration. I subsequently became an Assistant Principal of a NYC high school and served in that capacity for three years. I have returned to teaching to make a more prominent impact on disadvantaged students. Throughout these years and life experiences, I have remained very active at Hofstra University in an Alumni capacity. I received recognition in 2004, Alumnus of the Year Award and 2015, Athletics Hall of Fame inductee. I continue to love sports competing in triathlon, most recently, the 2012 New York City Triathlon. I continue to teach and coach my high school chess team and the NYU Club Baseball Team. I am now directing more and more of my energy and focus into the development of an Educational Foundation supporting special needs students. My work in NYC has also supported my grant writing ability which over the years has been very productive as well as an enjoyable writing experience. I am now retired as of 2012 and have pursued volunteer work with the Fortune Society. I also engage in Technical Analysis of the Stock Market in general and individual stocks in particular. I spend a great deal of my time trading various stocks, commodities and other financial instruments with success and a great deal of pleasure and enthusiasm. I currently live in NYC with my wife Elaine and enjoy many of the activities and interests that I pursued at UHS and Hofstra University. I credit my success in no small measure to the people, preparation and student body at Uniondale High.
