Daniel's Story

Life I'm originally from San Diego, California. Since my father was in the Navy, I've lived different places like Minnesota, New Mexico, and Texas. But, because my mother was involved with the theatre, I mostly grew up in the New York City area. I went to an elementary school in Manhattan when I was really young and lived in Washington Square. I also went to elementary schools in Bayonne, New Jersey, and a high school in the St. George area of Staten Island. After high school graduation, I attended the College of Staten Island. During the break in between semesters, I traveled across Europe and went on trips to the Hawaiian Islands. I graduated in 1990, worked for a year as a computer programmer in Manhattan, and then moved to Los Angeles, California in 1991. I met my future wife, Karen, in August 1997 and we were married on August 5, 2000. For our honeymoon, we went to Paris, France. For our first anniversary, we went to Hawaii. For our second anniversary, we went to Seattle (Karen is from Washington state) and to Victoria, British Columbia, in Canada. I work as a database developer for a major mortgage firm in Simi Valley. I am also completing the editing of my novel, which has the current title, "Falling into the Arms of Morpheus". It's a story about sex, drugs, rock'n'roll...and murder! I plan on publishing it under a psuedonym, Keith Daniels Delaney. When I'm not busy designing databases or writing, and my wife is not busy teaching at an elementary school, we like to take advantage of the "California Lifestyle"...hiking the many mountains in Southern California, biking, roller-blading, playing beach volleyball, and so on. Our daughter, Kalen Marie, was born on September 20, 2001. School Of all the years I went to school, the high school years were the best. I mentioned in my profile that I partied a lot during those years, but I mostly with friends outside of school -- I still partied like there was no tomorrow and that's why I had a habit of falling asleep at my desk at times! I still had good grades, and that's important! I can't say what my best memory is, but right now I can think of one: playing trumpet in the school band at the assembly hall or at graduation ...Expand for more
cermemonies for some classes that graduated before 1985. I have so many other memories of high school that I can't put it all down right here. For my tenth year high school reunion, it was great travelling all the way from California to New York and talking to old friends about some of those memories. I enjoyed my twentieth year reunion as well, and when I went back to the high school with some of my former classmates and my wife, I was able to relive some of the memories I had forgotten! College I met a lot of friends in college, but unfortunately I've lost touch with all of them. Unlike high school, most of my collegues at CSI were graduiating at different years than I so if I do go to any of the college reunions, I probabbly won't run into of my old friends! My most memorable times were sitting in the student lounge in the St. George campus while drinking one cup of coffee after another and discussing with my friends everything from history and economics to physics and philosophy. At the Sunnyside campus, there were ALWAYS parties happening at the Middle Earth Lounge and I went to a few of them. But while I was on the campus, I was more focused on the courses than anything else. I'd wait to meet with my friends outside of college, and go to parties, on the weekends! Workplace When I was very young, living in Washington Square section of Manhattan, I dreamed of being an astronaut. When I was going to high school in Staten Island, I wanted to become a scientist working in the field of Physics. But, by the time I went to college, I decided to study something that is both fun but also challenging. I majored in computer science, and I had training with both hardware and software. Since graduation, I worked at companies in the field of database management. My biggest passion outside of work is writing, and as I've mentioned in my life profile, I'm getting closer to finishing the editing of my novel. I never liked to write down notes on paper for my book, and so instead I wrote an ACCESS database. I type notes on the scenes but my laptop computer stores everything in an easy to find order. I guess even when I work on my novel, I wind up using my computer for more than just writing!
