Daniel's Story

Hi, After graduating from KU in '66 I attended OIT majoring in civil engineering (and working at various jobs on the side) util 1969 when I was drafted into the US Army. I spent 14 1/2 months in Vietnam and left the Army in November 1970 as a Specialist 5. I returned to OIT part time and worked at several different jobs until 1974 when I worked for 2 seasons for the Bureau of Land Management on a surveying crew. I then worked for Chris' Moulding in Klamath which became Henderson Millwork where I worked in various capacities the last of which were foreman and knife grinder. In September of 1985 I began my employment with Jeld-Wen at Cascade Forest Products in Bend, OR. I was accepted into the management program and I worked as a Group Manager at Cascade, Jeld-Wen of Flagstaff (AZ), and at Klamath Door in Klamath Falls. After 11 years in management I determined that I would rather have a life than management and accepted an hourly job running a moulder which I still do for JW Millwork Manufacturing in Klamath Falls. I plan to retire at the end of 2009 for health reasons (back problems). While with Jeld-...Expand for more
Wen in Bend, I attended Central Oregon Community College taking Business courses. I maintained a high enough GPA to be invited to join Phi Theta Cappa (the community college version of the Phi Beta Cappa honors society). In 1972 I began sports car racing. I started with autocrossing (parking lot courses) and progressed to Hillclimbs. I have been racing ever since (with some on and off periods). I am looking forward to retirement to have more time to race and to hunt and fish more. Another hobby I have acquired is shooting Sporting Clays, Skeet, and Cowboy Action Shooting. I think I have almost as much fun with those sports as I used to hunting. I teach classes in reloading ammunition and have met several new friends that way. In 1994, I married my best friend and soulmate, Mary Lou and life got even more exciting. She also races and we have traveled as much as we can afford, going to Mexico, Hawaii, and several places in the lower 48. We also enjoy remodeling our home at the head of the Klamath River Canyon in Keno, OR. That's about it for now! I hope to add more exciting things after retiring! Dan
