Daniel's Story
Wow. Where do I begin? After high school I went to college and graduated with a degree in respiratory therapy. I then moved to Virginia to work at the University of Virginia Medical Center where I remain employed today.
My 15 1/2 years in Charlottesville, VA have been wonderful; both professionally and personally. While working as a registered respiratory therapist at a large academic medical center, I've managed to develop the competency and skills necessary to move from clincial to academic and administrative positions within the healthcare system. I worked as a Sr. respiratory therapist specializing in adult surgical/trauma/burn critical care for 15 years. I'm now a clinical supervisor and have significant interest in bench and clinical research. My interest in human subject research has afforded me opportunity to publish in peer review medical journals, medical text books, and present at various medical symposia throughout the United States.
I served as President of the Virginia Society for Respiratory Care in 2007, and I presently hold a seat on...Expand for more
the American Association for Respiratory Care's International Committee.
On a personal note, I went through a metamorphasis upon arriving to Charlottesville. I was tired of living a lie, and eventually I accepted myself as a gay man. Yep, I'm gay! My significant other's name is George and we've been together for 15 1/2 years. We built a house in Charlottesville about 10 years ago; it's located within a short distance from U. VA campus.
George and I enjoy many things that life has to offer. We love to travel, read, fine dining, cooking, sailing, sports, etc... We're headed to Cabo San Lucas in October to celebrate George's 50th birthday, and then to L.A. in December where I'll be presenting clinical research at an International Respiratory Congress. My research focuses on neonatal and adult acute lung injury with an emphasis on adult high freqency oscillatory ventilation and transcutaneous carbon dioxide monitoring.
I hope that life has treated you well too. Perhaps we'll see each other at the 1990 20-year reunion.
With kindest regards,
Dan
