Life
I'm a writer and news editor by choice, and by accident fell into the role of coach to younger journalists of similar interests. (Maybe not entirely by accident, since my Richmond mentor, Joe Nettles, set a memorable example.) o play guitar. It's one of the most satisfying things I've done. Finger-picking's my style and I long to play "Blue Ridge Mountain Blues." My "Cold, Cold Heart," the Hank Williams song in a rendition inspired by Norah Jones, isn't bad.
I've resumed the camping I left off when I moved from the Blue Ridge, though our more frequent activity is a walk or bike ride. We own a canoe, use it seldom. Liz runs a lot, leaving women her age in the dust. Am learning cross-country skiing in New Hampshire -- but you won't find me on the slopes!
Lately I'm super-busy as an advocate for bicycling and walking -- trying to encourage both activities and get better urban paths and sidewalks to support it. Check out greenmobilitynetwork.org.
