Darcia's Story
Life
Hello to the class of '82!
I am looking forward to the upcoming reunion.
It will be a great chance to reconnect with a bunch of people!
After high school, I went to the U. of M. and took arts courses for 2 years before entering law school. I graduated in 1987 and was called to the Bar in 1988.
In my career, I've practised in various areas of law and in a variety of work settings. I have been in private practice, I have been a government lawyer and did a few year stint as in-house counsel at an insurance company. For the past 11 years, I've worked at the Law Society of Manitoba where I am currently General Counsel. The bulk of my job consists of prosecuting lawyers who are charged with professional misconduct. It's very interesting work and we are helping to protect the public.
I "inherited" 2 step-kids (boy and a girl) who are now no longer children. In that time period, I went to more hockey, soccer, and baseball games than I can count and learned a lot!
I now live outside of Winnipeg on 20 acres...which is enough room for our horses [my husband, Gary, plays polo], our big Maremma Sheepdog, our ...Expand for more
cat, and our cockatiel. A veritable Dr. Doolittle ranch!
I commute to Winnipeg and actually enjoy the drive--half of which is in the country.
I've continued to sing...and in the past few years, I've written my own songs and recorded them on 2 cds...(tallgrassmusic) I have sung in various communities throughout the province and doing these kinds of concerts has been a fabulous experience. I learned more about myself and how I need to nurture the creative side of me...very different from my "day job" but just as important...to me.
I hope that everyone has learned to follow their own paths...wherever that may have led them. So important (and sometimes scary) to do what you need to do.
As important as it is to look forward, it is important to look back...I intend to review my year books before the reunion and reflect on what I learned at J.T...both from the teachers and from my friends.
Thanks to the efforts of the reunion committee...that was quite a task you took on! Kudos to you!
I hope that others will join classmates.com so that more of us can reconnect after these many years.
Take care!
