Darian's Story
Life
I'm still synthesizing computers, libraries and computer labs! :-)
I have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. I'm also a certified PC technician and certified network technician. Currently studying to become a computer and network security analyst (partly due to 9/11/01).
Taught PC and Networking support at Ranken Technical College.
Completed help desk projects with Charter Communications and Anheuser-Busch.
Next target in sight: The Bell System (SBC, Qwest, BellSouth or Verizon). AT&T...Maybe. :-)
I'm a proud Democrat and IT Professional.
My gratitude goes out to the teachers of all the schools I attended.
When executives of all races take note of my articulation, they ask the obvious question: "Where are you from?"
I still tell them, proudly, East St. Louis, Illinois because that's where I got my foundation of math and computers from. And it will always be my heart.
I am happy to see that a new school is finally built on the corner of 10th and Broadway (formerly the site of the old Hughes-Quinn Junior High School). Dunbar School has arisen from the ashes. Lincoln on 12th and Bond is still a shell, but Tigers never die.
UPDATE: It's nice to see new face in City Hall, and new version of the Casino Queen. We hope to keep 'rising from the ashes' as Eugene B. Redmond would say.
School
My most unforgetable moment at Lincoln was the return of Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
The year...Expand for more
was 1988, and Jackie got the gold in the Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. In 1989, Lincoln assembled everybody in the gym for a special homecoming for Jackie.
The bleachers were packed (standing room only), and the news reporters crowded the entrance (one of which I remembered was Art Holiday from Channel 5).
I can't remember who announced her name, but the minute it was the red carpet was rolled out across the gym floor to the special platform. From the moment she entered the gym, the crowd went completely nuts.
She walked across that red carpet, approached the platform and did her speech.
After the speech, everyone gathered outside to do the parade from Lincoln to the 189 School District building.
I'll never forget that day.
That was one of the best mornings I ever had in East St. Louis!
College
I attended Aurora University (in Aurora, IL--located 40 miles west of Chicago, IL) where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
Chicago was, and still is, a very live and diverse city. (Especially during the Michael Jordan era 1991-1993). The word up in Chicago is BIG.
If I could do it all over again...I would!
Workplace
Since graduation, I worked at the following companies:
Brown Group, Incorporated
A.G. Edwards
Software, Etc.
Defense Finance and Accounting Service
May Department Stores Company
Ranken Rechnical College
Hilton Hotels
UPDATE: Currently doing Government Banking
