Darin's Story
Life
January 2008-
I've been married since '92, 2 great kids, a horse, a dog and a cat. (Who'd a thunk it?)
My 14 year old son has very few of my traits, and thankfully only the good ones, my musical talent and the uncanny ability to fix anything. Regardless of genetics, he does well in school without trying and is always on top of his responsibilities. I call it good parenting on his father's part... My wife says her genes took over!!
Josh & I enjoy time together playing music, he's an accomplished percussionist but also plays guitar, keyboards and has just started flute. We also Blacksmith at Jerusalem Mill, in Kingsville.
My 12 year old daughter, Grace, is a bit more social like me. She has a million friends and is involved in chorus, drama and soccer. She also does well in school, must be the wife's influence again.. We used to spend a lot of time together practicing skits and improvs but as she gets closer to her teen years she seems to have less time for her Dad. She still keeps a little time slated for me every week to goof off, so I guess I can't be too sad.
My wife has her own business making Civil War re-enna...Expand for more
ctors clothing and other crafts. She's been sewing for 20 years and really enjoys the details of that era. She is known as one of the best in the industry and supplies many of the shops in Gettysburg. Her business is mason-dixon sewing.
As for me, I've had a few businesses, as most of you know, I owned Otter Point Station Restaurant and Music Bar, in Abingdon until 2005. Now I own a small cleaning chemical company, I teach the Responsible Alcohol Service classes and I sell residential and commercial real estate. You could say I like to keep busy.
I still play a few gigs a year, mostly private parties and weddings. My latest passion is blacksmithing. I've finally found a visual art form that I enjoy!! (Mrs. Heuston would be thrilled!!)
I guess the only thing left is friends; I actually keep in contact with most of the people I was close to. Lost a few along the way and still feel the pain of those losses, and hoping, someday, to make sense of it all.
All in all, life's been good to me as I hope it has been for all of you.
May the love of God caress your lips as
you sleep and embrace you gently when this life is over.
