Darla's Story
Hmmm, where to begin...
After I graduated from AHS, I was in a traveling company of "Jesus Christ Superstar." Then I moved to Glens Falls, then Rochester, NY, where I worked and acted in a community theater. I moved to midtown Manhattan during the "summer of Sam" (1977) to help manage a friend who was starting up a cabaret act. That fell though so that fall, I enlisted in the US Army, was placed into the first class to ever train men & women together in basic training right through to the end of Military Police School (Fort McClellan, AL). I was stationed with the 571st MP Company at Fort Ord, CA and with the 221st MP Company, in Vicenza, Italy, with the Southern European Task Force (SETAF).
After my honorable discharge (Ft. Devens, MA), I became a stereotypical yardbird and moved back to Monterey, CA for a year where I worked as a bartender at Shakey's Pizza. Then I went back to Vermont (where I was born) for a while and worked as a correctional officer (in a medium security facility that housed men only).
In '85, I moved back to CA, where the fun began. My law enforcement training secured me a job as the central station supervisor at Bel Air Patrol, an armed security company whose clients included celebrities and high profile personnel. I was lured away from that job to work at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank as a security manager. Added to the daily operations and production assignments, I supervised security on such TV shows as "Murphy Brown," "Designing Women," "Night Court," "China Beach," (to name a few) and several motion pictures filmed in the 80s & 90s. I then moved to HBO Corporate HQ in NYC as one of their 5 in-house security team members. Unfortunately, even tha...Expand for more
t position didn't pay enough to afford living in NYC, so I moved back to VT, where I became a private investigator, then a federal police officer working for the Department of Veterans Affairs. After that, I ended up back in CA (in Palm Springs...poor me) and worked as a surveillance agent for the Agua Caliente Band of Cuhilla Indians Spa Hotel and Casino and then as a security chief for a resort/HOA/golf course in Cathedral City.
After 9/11, I was again lured back to Warner Bros. to help implement their new, restrictive security procedures. That lasted a year.
I worked a little while in Carlisle, PA (my former SO's parents lived there) as a loss prevention officer and eventually returned to VT, where I started writing for PD Publishing (now defunct), then Blue Feather Books (now defunct - I swear, it's not me), then I contracted with Bedazzled Ink which didn't work out, so I started my own publishing company, Bossy Pants Books and now I write independently under the name Cheyne Curry. My fiction novels (so far) are Renegade, Clandestine, The Tropic of Hunter, The End, The Resistance and one of my stories was included in the book, The Velvet Anthology. In 2008, I moved to Columbus, OH, got married, got involved with the local film community, wrote, produced, scored (and occasionally acted) in short films for contests. That pretty much brings me up-to-date.
I always wanted to be one of those people who, instead of saying, "I wish I'd done that when I had the chance," actually did it when I had the chance. I have no complaints about my life, I am fortunate to have had all the opportunities I've had.
I am looking forward to the 50th reunion next year and seeing all my classmates.
