Darla's Story

Life After high school, I went to Billings Business College to become a secretary. Didn't do that. Joined the Women's Army Corp and learned data processing. Best thing I ever did. Have been in the computer field every since. Met my first husband in the service, we were married for three years. I left him in Rockford, IL and came home to good ole' Miles City. Met a fellow high schoolmate who graduated in 1963, Norman Timmons. We married in 1973 and have been together 43 years. I worked for the City of Bozeman where we have resided since 1975 for seven years. Left there and found a small job with a bookkeeping and payroll service. We live in Bozeman MT in the historic part of town near MSU. In the past we always had at least one kitty. Now that we are retired and want to travel more, we lost our last kitty, Susie Q, in 2019 and didn't rescue another. We both quit smoking in the 70's (Norm) and '80's (Darla). That was another wonderful life choice. Norm is retired from the school district. We are happy and fairly healthy for our age. We enjoy antiquing and collecting different things. Spoons, Hallmark, cars, trains, swans and many more too numerous to mention. We don't collect anymore, trying to disperse our wonderful collections to charity organizations to raise money for their cause. Now I have taken up Happy Color during the pandemic but more importantly I decided to get back into doing some ancestry work on Ancestry.com and Find a Grave. I have found out so much about all the branches of my family and it has been fascinating. After attending this year's All 6Os Class Reunion for CCHS and SHHS, I dec...Expand for more
ided to track down all of our classes "missing" classmates. We have lost quite a few. On Facebook Tom Masa (SHHS) and I have set up a Facebook page to remember and memorialize our deceased classmates from the Class of 1966. The name of the page is: Miles City MT CCHS & SHHS Memorial Remembrance Page. Workplace In high school in the summers I worked at the Miles City Steam Laundry and The May Basket, a restaurant on one of the interstate exits. After my military service, I went to work at National Lock in Rockford, IL doing data entry. From there I came back to Montana and worked at the First National bank for about 2 years. From there I was transferred to the same bank in Bozeman, MT. I worked a total of five years at the bank. From there I worked at Gallatin Valley Furniture for about 6 years and several other locally owned businesses doing data entry. Seven years with the City of Bozeman as Business License and Cemetery Clerk. (What a combination!) Now I am retired. Military My military life started in Butte, MT at the induction center. From there I went to Fort McClellen, AL for basic training. For my schooling I was stationed at Fort Benjamin, IN, here I learned data processing and data entry. I was then shipped to Fort Sheridan, IL for active duty. From there I was shipped to Germany where I spend 6 months. By this time I had met the man who was to be my first husband. After my required six months in Germany I came back to the states and joined my fiance at Fort Riley, KS. We were married in January of 1973. At that time women could be discharged from the Army on marriage, so I did that. End of story.
