CLASS OF 1960
Garden grove, CA

Darlena's Story

Life I married in 1962 to a divorced man with cusjtody of his two girls. We had three more daughters, totalling 5 daughters. We both attanded and were graduated from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in 1978. We pastored 17 years in Grover Beach, CA, at First Baptist Church. We moved in 1995 and pastored First Baptist Church in Brownsville, CA. I was elected to the Lucia Mar Unified School District Board of Education in 1979 and served 1979 to 1995, elected to 4 four year terms. I had just been relected whe my husband accepted another church. When we moved in 1995, I had to resign my position. I served on California School Boards Association committees and presented state-wide workshops on Legislative Networking and Religion in Public Schools. I was also appointed to the Federal Relations Commission and lobbied in Sacramento and in Washington, D.C. annually. My husband, the Reverend Bob Alexander, died in his sleep December 3, 2000. He suffered from heart problems complicated by diabetes and multiple blocked arteries with a AAA. He was in gospel music 13 years before we went to seminary and he became a full time pas...Expand for more
tor. He actually sang and performed a wedding the day before he died. He died on a Sunday when he was to preach on "The Hope of Heaven". God allowed him to die in his sleep as was his wish and to come home on a Sunday as well! I have 13 grandchildren and currently live with my middle daughter, her husband and two of my grandchildren in Bakersfield, CA. I serve on the Missions Committee in my Southern Baptist Church, and I lead two women's groups. I have taught every age in Sunday school over the years. I have served as Christian Education director in the two churches we served. I am currently in training as a CASA volunteer. My husband and I were licensed as foster parents in Yuba County. I adore my family and my church and most importantly, my God. I would love to hear from some of you "old high school cronies". I really haven't kept in touch with anyone from high school in part because immediatly after graduation I moved to Los Angeles. And in 1962 I married and had an instant family, husband, and a full time job. I do hope you have each had a God blessed life. Love in Christ, Darlena (Morgan) Alexander
