Darlene's Story
Life
From high school, I got married (bass player from band,Tommorrow's Hope). I had a son at 18 and a daughter at 23. Went to Purdue & obtained my BS in nursing and continued to work at St. Marg. in Hammond as an orthopaedic tech, and emergency room nurse. Spent a few years working in Intensive Care (type A personality) Also worked in Gary in ER. Started my own high-tech home-care agency in Merrillville, IN in 1984 until 2001. Moved to St. John, IN in 1984 as well. Opened some video stores, and enjoyed watching my children grow up and having the flexibility to be involved in their activities. Traveled a lot. Sold my company in 2001, and had to give up my career in 2002 to take care of my parents. Son has a masonry business in St. John IN and my daughter is a pilot for American Eagle airlines. Family called- needed me at home, so I moved back temporarily to Hessville on Orchard Dr...Expand for more
ive where I live in my grandma's 100 yr old farmhouse. In 1971, my 9 yr old brother was killed by a drunk driver, in Nov. of 2003, my other brother, Steve was killed in a bar in Hessville in 2003. .My parents are still alive and living next to their penny candy store in Hessville.
I am single and love my freedom and friends. Always did have a knack for making my own fun-anyone remember? I have my hands full since my parents are now disabled. Just trying to make it day to day, like all of you. Good luck to you all, may your memories of our growing up be good ones. We did have fun, didn't we? Dar. For all of you who used to throw skittles at people's windows to wake them up- to sneak out to the parrish dunes almost every night of the summer -when we weren't climbing over the fence at Hessville park to swim- those WERE the days!! (Sue Stevens, Barb, Woody Doughman, and the rest)!
