Darlene's Story
Hi friends!
A little about me: I finished nursing school at Loma Linda and then married Eric Hanson who was a medical student at the time. I worked as an intensive care/trauma nurse for about 7 years. During that time we had two daughters. After Eric finished residency, we moved to Fresno and have been here for 19 years. I had the honor of being able to stay home as the girls grew up and was active in their schools and at our church. Last year we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary! A bit about our daughters. Lauren, who is 24, lives in Newport Beach and is a cosmetologist. So far, we can't convince her that Fresno is a better place to live then Newport! Oh well. Our youngest daughter Allie, is 22 and was married last summer. She will finish nur...Expand for more
sing school this May. She and her husband Jesse live a couple of miles away so we get to see them often. So what do you do when you have an empty nest? I keep busy volunteering at church, in an inner-city school with reading and math, exercising to stave off the effects of life in my late 40's (sorry to remind you all of this fact) and have been on a couple of two week missions trips through our church, The Well Community Church in the last year. The first was to Laos where we put new roofing on an orphanage and the second to Honduras to do medical clinics. We are preparing to go again this summer to Honduras for the same project and then a year from now to Northern Thailand to work up in the Hill Tribes close to the Burma border.
