Darlene's Story

We have recently moved from Montana to Queen Creek, Arizona. After not getting much business in training horses and sliding off the road in a tractor trailer twice, I figured it was time for me to leave. Mom wanted to go back to CA, too, so we all thought it best to move to a more productive state for us. We still own Peruvian horses and we now go riding lots more than we used to. Hoping to get my horse training business up again here. We have a Norwich Terrier, calico cat and a barn cat, along with my 4 horses. My mom has moved to CA and still has two Schnauzers Back in 1990, I moved from Castro Valley to French Camp, near Stockton, and started Silver Gait Ranch, my horse business, and have lived in the country ever since. One day, I took my ski boat to Don Pedro to go skiing and wound up meeting my husband, and so it goes! (when you least expect it!) Things were great until he lost his job and we couldn't make it on my driving job and my horse business so we moved to MT next door to some friends. That didn't work our so well in the snow and ice for me, so here we are . . . in beautiful Arizona. Life is good. Hope all of you are doing well. If you ever happen to come to Arizona, stop by and say Hi and maybe go for a ride on the smoothest horses in the world. Catch y'all later . . . . . The following is from the "Story Wizard" I would have never came up with this! I would hope my friends would remember me as always wanting to have fun and being happy. I still seem to have the outgoing personality that I had when I was a bratty kid!!! I always wanted to be a horse trainer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a lousy idea. As it turns out, they were sooooo wrong. What do I do to relax? Go for a ride or to a horse related event or do some gardening. What's the wildest thing you ever did in school? Not sure . . . can't remember . . . gettin' old! If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have coffee, snacks, and a CB radio to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Do I have a hero? Probably a "mentor" would be Ray Hunt or Tom Dorrance. Where have I lived and why did I move? California, Montana, and now Arizona. Long story on why I moved . . . The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Judy Stafford, because we had a lot of good times together. Don't know where she went.. Sports - Rodeo. Reality TV - take it or leave it; RFDTV is my favori...Expand for more
te. Pets - Horses, dogs, cats, zebras . . . Obsessions - probably the horses and riding. My biggest surprise was probably my car at graduation. If I could improve my home, I'd change the kitchen cabinets, put in a pool and an insulated tackroom for my horse stuff. . My dream home would be: One I could build again and more acreage. . . . . that's why they call it dreaming! Don't have any kids. The teacher I'd probably like to see again was Mr. Sobieski . . .can't remember how to spell his name! He was my Art teacher. If I won $100 million, I'd give 20 of it to Humane Society, then spend the rest on Horse Rescue ranches, a couple more stallions and mare and an indoor arena with the "works"!. I am happy now . . . wouldn't change a thing. My current age is 51. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be weird and old. I was so completely immature!. Not working at the time. Will be looking for a driving job here in AZ until my horse business gets going again. Don't really know what happened to my first "crush". My best friend would tell you I'm always happy and fun to be around, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a smart ass!. I don't dress like I did 10-20 years ago but I still have T-shirts that I bought then and they still fit!!!! Still have that western accent when I talk mixed with "trucker" style! Never had a "wierd" job. Maybe ones that I didn't like much! I share my home with my husband and all our animals, which I find is just perfect. Got lots of horse show trophies and a few bowling and car show trophies as well. Got some safety awards, coats and stuff from driving. If I had anything to do over, I'd probably have moved from CA to AZ in the first place! In 10 years, I hope to be semi-retired and still training horses. I'm going to get there by being confident and positive about my future. The thing that would probably surprise everyone at my reunion would be that I haven't gained much weight, and not like my male counterparts . . . I still have some hair! Probably would be Pam Wyatt. Can't remember how we met and we just seemed to hit it off from the start. My first job was at Con-cise Contact Lens Co., where I got paid ? .00 to work in Bookkeeping. What I remember most about it is meeting a really good friend, Cheryl Perriera. A childhood memory I'll never forget would be winning my first trophy in a parade with my mare, Brandy.
