Darlene's Story
So... I did a lot of theater in college. Interesting, considering I started out as a biology major. I became a professional banker, after some detours and a move back to Texas. I became an expert in all sides of financial services, and even helped pursue crooks and bad guys in the industry to make them pay after they took down the savings and loan industry and many banks. I even did a stint in IT and supervised some techies, and was usually the go-to person on computers over the years.
The last ten years of my working life were spent as an expert on vaccines and preventable diseases in public health, and also educating the public, school nurses, and first responders about it all as well. When COVID hit, I like to think that some of my presentations made a difference, especially with area fire departments. ilton Jr. High with me, you know that my 9th grade science fair project was on—UFOs, now called UAPs. No one batted an eye, not even my instructor, Mr. Kindsfather, bless him! I have been to JPL, and also got to meet Jacques Cousteau at a weekend marine biology symposium on Catalina Island, and also hear the great Richard Feynman speak at another symposium in L.A.—when I was in high school. Not one word of any of it ended up in the school newspaper or the yearbook. Go figure...
What I have the most pride in are my two sons. They have become such great human beings, I would want to know them even if they weren’t my sons! Plus, I have 3 unique grand kids too. My only wish is that they get to fulfill their dreams for the future. And after two failed marriages, I met the right guy and we’ve been together for almost 15 years…but not married. Ha!
I used to be an avid hiker until my stroke 4 years ago, but I’m glad that I got to hike in some rugged, beautiful places before that happened, including places in New Mexico and Big Bend here in Texas.
Oh, and my acne finally cleared up completely after high school, and besides being smart, I got to be pretty too! Yay! 🤣
No brag…just fact.
Life’s too short…just keep moving... and never stop learning.
