Darlene's Story

I've been married and alternately a single mother ... no need to say how many times. I'm happy, carefree (except for the damn bills that have to be paid), make my own decisions and I'm as stubborn as ever which, I suppose, does not make me a follower. I look forward to getting some serious medical problems taken care of over the next 6 months. If it weren't for the grandkids, of which I now have 10 including step-grandchildren (but we don't use the "step" word), I'd have retired to the islands or beaches of South Carolina. No, not Myrtle Beach (nice place to visit) or Hilton Head ... some private, out-of-the-way place. I've not yet had my dream vacation of a Mississippi River Boat cruise. Heck with the ocean cruises ... I want that old-fashioned riverboat. I did see them docked on the Ohio River once which merely rekindled my dreams. This "Story Wizard" thingamabob to the right says I should write about how I hope old friends remember me. That would be a tricky one since I don't quite remember me back then. I thought I was shy and introverted but I am told I was not. I'll follow the story wizard tips from here on. That means I don't really have to think (much like I didn't in classes in high school). I always wanted to be an AIRLINE STEWARDESS when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a HEAD-IN-THE-CLOUDS idea. I blow off steam BY DUMPING IT ON MY THERAPIST. I relax by READING. The wildest thing I ever did in high school? I don't recall doing anything I'd call wild. Hooked school a lot though. My hero is still MIGHTY MOUSE. Someday he really will come and save the day. I've lived in NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA AND MARYLAND, both Harford and Baltimore Counties. I moved with marriages and/or because I felt like it. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is ... <IT'S ...Expand for more
A SECRET> ... because I had the biggest crush ever on him. Sports & reality tv: YUCK!!! Pets: DOG & 2 CATS currently. The damn maintenance men killed my parrot & I adopted out my fish & boa. My obsessions? What kind of stupid question is that? Let's see ... I'm a bit obsessed with continuing to inhale and exhale at the appropriate times. I have this crazy notion that it keeps one alive. Try as they might, the shrinks can't cure me of it. What's been my biggest surprise (in life)? Creating and successfully running my own business. What happened to my first crush? He's still out there and remains unidentified. Still dress like I did 10 (or 20) years ago? I actually still have a pair of 20+ year-old Jordache jeans that I still wear. Do they even make Jordache anymore? Otherwise, I dress however I feel like it. I prefer to be overdressed for an occasion than under-dressed and that does not necessarily refer to the amount of fabric in the attire. What one thing would I have done differently if given the chance? I suppose not walking down the aisle that first or second time ... maybe the third one either. I don't seem to do well at picking husbands. In 10 years, I hope to be ALIVE. I'm going to get there by INHALING AND EXHALING and hopefully having a successful open-heart surgery to start off 2010. What about me would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? They'd probably be surprised if I arrived on the roof after having parachuted in. That would suprise the hell out of me too. A childhood memory that I'll never forget? That my friends and neighbors thought it odd when my mother hung chickens (with their heads cut off) by their feet from the clothesline. It never occurred to me that everyone didn't do the same. Well, that's the end of the "Story Wizard" questions. And that's the way it is.
