Darrell's Story
Long story, but I guess we all have one. I graduated from HS and went to the best college out there, NC State. Graduated there in 1993 with a degree in Computer Science and got married that same summer I graduated. Switched around with a few jobs here and there, working for about a year or so then changing again. I ended up with a job at Progress Energy (Carolina Power and Light - CP&L at the time) and have been there since 1997.
With a little difficulty, we finally got pregnant with a little girl in 1998. Her name is Kylie. Again, with some difficulty, we became pregnant again, though this time with twins in 2002! Kevin was born first, with his sister, Kayden, following 34 minutes later. You would be amazed at how many people asked if they were identical, even after telling them they were boy/girl. The boy/girl parts kind of made that a little difficult, but gave us a chuckle every time.

exact) we received our first devastating news. Kylie (our oldest) was diagnosed with Diabetes. It was devastating at the time, but definitely gave us a since of purpose. Now we are huge JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) fans. We do lots of charity work and help raise money for research.
I would have to say that I always thought myself as giving and caring, but when your child is affected in this way, and you see other parents who are in the same or worse situation, it changes you. Now I do whatever I can to help other parents who have children that are impacted by illness or disease.
So, not to close on a down note, the diabetes has been a great thing for us. Though it has caused Kylie to grow up sooner than any of us would have ever wanted, we have all become better people for it. I see it as a blessing in a small way.
Well, that is my story summed up short and sweet. Tell me about yours!
