Darrell's Story
I am a rock climber. That's what I prefer to do with my time. I've been climbing for 22 years now. I got started in San Diego, CA when I was stationed there in the Navy. I retired from the Navy in 2002 and bought a house, where I now live, in Riverside, CA with my wife and 14 year old daughter. I worked for the Boeing Company for 5 years right after the Navy, but got laid off. I've been setting routes for a local indoor climbing gym. healthy. I climb outside as often as I can and we have it pretty good here in California. From the world class big walls of Yosemite to premium bouldering all around. Add the unbeatable climate and it just doesn't get any better.
I do miss home, though. Home for me will always be the beautiful Carolina foothills. We were so fortunate to grow up where we did. I never could make any of our class reunions, but I often have fond memories and wonderful stories about Boiling Springs and my friends there.
