La Von's Story
Life
After I graduated from Banning I worked for the Department of Defense and started my college education at Long Beach City College. In the early 60's I was in the U.S. Army. I got to see exotic Laos, Thailand and Viet Nam. I was allowed to walk through their rice fields and jungles and meet some people we were looking for. After my army tour I returned to my job with the Department of Defense and finished my education at their expense. I obtained the title of Supervisor Naval Architect. I enjoyed my new profession. I traveled all over the world for the next 30 years to gather engineering data for the modernization of U.S. Navy ships. That was fun for a few years, but it got old. ble to continue my Naval Architect profession when I get lonely for it. Which is very seldom now.
I married La Von Perkins from Taft, CA. We have two boys Darrell (29) and Devlon (27). Both of them got their BS Degrees and are now enjoying their professions. In 1975 I full-filled a lifetime dream I bought a big home on the top of Palos Verdes. It has a beautuful view of the city. I can't see Banning High School, but I can see the top of all the smog that is there. I gained some weight over the years, but when I saw the pictures of me at our last reunion I was shocked at how much I had gained, so I lost it. I feel a lot better now. My son Darrell and I are planning a trip to Ireland in September 2001, just a couple months from now. That should prove to be a lot of fun.
