Darrin's Story

Life Update: daughter is 23 now and son 30. Both doing their own thing. Added getting open water scuba certified in April 2010. Such an odd but awesome experience. Im use to flying high and having to clear my ears due to altitude, but going deep and clearing was different and yet the same. Still would rather be in the air in a plane if anything went wrong then underwater if anything went wrong. :) Hoping to do more in the future. For lack of a better term, Im retiring from Alaska. The industry has gotten mean, lots of uncertainty and the agents are just numbers. Now deciding what else would draw my interest since Ive already pursued my dream and done that, so its hard to compete after that point. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Single dad raising my two kids, daughter who is 9 and son who is 16. Life has its ups and downs but ultimately my kids are what its all about and now slowly branching out to do other things as the years go by. Eventually it would be good to find someone to share things with again and travel with. In the mean time the kids and I have traveled a bit and look forward to more fun and trips in the future. I work full time for Alaska Airlines in their reservation center. Over the past years, there have been a lot of things happening, several of which were trips of a lifetime. ited me to goto Venice, Italy for 4 days to celebrate their friends 40th birthday. Needless to say it was awesome. Ive also volunteered to help with the Iditarod March of 2005 and hoping to go up again this next year. I was a dog handler, which is the people that assist the mushers with holding their dogs as they hook up and help them to the line. Try jogging in 2 foot of snow, hunched over and squatting to be able to reach to the dogs level at a jog. Hard work but very much worth it if you ever get the chance. I also went out deep sea fishing for the first time for King Salmon and Halibut. For once the fish did not laugh at me! Even though I work for an airline, it took me 4 years before I finally made a trip to Alaska. I tend to find fun and pleasure in the simplest of things so the whole trip I was like a little kid (which Im like that with most all trips) and enjoyed seeing everything in a new light. Finally made it to Mexico as well. The water was so warm that I lived in the surf for two days, barely coming out of it long enough to get a drink and then right back into it. I was red as a lobster the first day, but figured get it out of the way right off the bat and enjoy the rest. Ill have fond memories of all the trips above and many others and hope to continue to build new ones. Lifes to short to not get out and try to see new exciting and interesting places.
