Daryl's Story
After high school, I married my late husband, Adule Chansuthus, and finished a BA (UTK) and an MA (MTSU) in English before leaving for Bangkok, Thailand in 1981 where I taught in the English Department of the Faculty of Arts of Chulalongkorn University for about five years. I was given the opportunity to join the faculty of the Sasin Graduate School of Business, a joint venture among Chulalongkorn, Kellogg, and Wharton, where I gained the equivalent of an MBA and served on the faculty for 12 years. Seventeen years and five children later, I lost my husband in a car accident and, at the unrelenting urging of my family in Tennessee, decided to return in 1998 with my children to the U.S. to explore an interest in strengthening families and developing communities--an interest born from volunteer work in Thailand.

ack to school in 2000 and obtained a Master's in Social Work. I served as Executive Director for Performance and Quality Improvement for the Tennessee Department of Children's Services for almost a decade. Following a change of Commissioners, I left DCS to serve as a consultant to Children's Rights, a New York-based national advocacy firm, before taking my current position as the Executive Director of the Wo/Men's Resource and Rape Assistance Program for West Tennessee. Although I rent an apartment in Jackson, I own a home in Nashville, which is where all but one of my children have also settled and where my parents and sisters and their families still live. I usually spend two or three weekends a month at home in Nashville, which is where I plan to retire eventually.
I regret that I missed our 40th reunion in 2011 but hope to be able to attend our 50th!
