Dave's Story
Are we eligible for Medicare and now Social Security?
My life is blessed- I am an almost fully recovered manufacturing engineer and academician. A fellow educator told me not to say I am retired, just "pensioned out" of CA State Teachers Retirement System since 2008.
I drive a '13 Dodge Charger (silver), because the '98 Mustang convertible (red) got donated. And the problem is?
Adult children are the best; it's nice to hear, "Good idea Pops". I have explained that if they inherit more than $500 each, I just haven't planned properly.
I prefer to not have a real job, ever again. It is far better to be a contractor, where I can play guitar and have the damn phone interrupt me. If I need a big order to come in, I take a nap; works every time!
I enjoy providing sales, support, and training for K-12 teachers, community college instructors, and university engineering / technology professors in 3-D Solids Modeling Computer Aided Design and analysis software (SOLIDWORKS) to help traditional and visual based learning students, too brilliant to pay attention in math and science class. I do miss leading the Faculty Summer Workshops at UC Bezerkeley.
Summer 2006 three week Europe adventure included: Copenhagen / Vejle, Berlin, Edinburgh, London, and Paris (Merci Madame Samia et Monsieur Lewis).
Summer 2011 four week Europe adventure included: Barceloneta (Montserrat), Salon de Provence (Avignon, Arles, Aix en Provence), Bordeaux (played songs from the 60's in a little guitar shop for 2 hrs with my new buddy Jean Paul), Lezzano (Lake Como driving i...Expand for more
nto Switzerland in a Smart Car For Two), Venice (Plaza San Marco partially flooded), Florence (Museo Galileo), and Rome (Vatican as well as Capuchin Crypt). To prove that 60 is not old, I climbed the Florence Duomo (463 steps). Of course we had to go to Pisa and Pompeii
Headed to Quepos Costa Rica for a week, just ahead of the 2013 green season. Firsts: caught a 90 lb. sailfish, ziplined and rappelled, played guitar and sang for over an hour at an open mic at a little cantina. Rode a cranky old horse, probably for the last time, named Diablo. Watching the sloths outside our window, I now understand Pura VIda.
We renewed the passports in 2015 for a one week trip to Prague and Split. Additional trips included: Charleston / Savannah, Lima / Machu Pichu (with my son), and Canada / New England cruise.
2016 included: St. Croix, Austin, Halifax, Park City, Reno/Tahoe, and of course lots of Utah trips to see the grandbaby.
2017 summer 3 week has already included: (Ireland) Dublin, Galway, Ennis, Clonmel, Cork, Amsterdam, (cruise) Kotka Finland, St. Petersburg, and Talin, and of course Paris (trip to Chartes).
You know I sang with the pub bands.
The 40th Wilson high school reunion provided an opportunity to visit with "old" friends (from first grade+) and clarify my memories of our senior prank. I was assured the statute of limitations protects us.
And if I don't screw up too badly, the cute red haired girl that rode on my Honda 160cc motorcycle (w/ scrambler exhaust pipes) in 1971 might even keep me around. Eh, Jude?
