Dave's Story

Life Hello everyone! My life is anything but dull. I married Janice Haymond (class of 1973) in 1976 and had my first Child (Ann) in 1977. Crystal followed in 1979, Brad in 1983 and Brett in 1987. I started a concrete business in 1982. I formed a company called Barton Decorative Curbing. It was the first garden curbing company in the Salt Lake Valley. This business kept me busy 14 to 16 hours a day between April and November most years. In 2005 I got my real estate license. I still on occasion do curbing and flatwork like driveways and patios to keep me in shape. I have been able to stay close to many of my friends through two dinner groups that Janice and I get together with periodically. My classmates (1972) in one dinner group include Larry Jensen, Mike Lund, Steve Glick, Kim Taylor and Brad Duckworth. The other group includes classmates (1973) Gary Beynon, Jeff Wells, Brent Bowen, Jim Williamson and Terry Taylor. Interestingly enough, Terry Taylor is my brother-in-law! He married my wife's twin sister Joyce. Terry is the brother of Kim Taylor. Kim is the one responsible for lining up Janice and me up when he was dating Joyce (now Terry's wife). Sound confusing? Well it isn't really. It makes me and Kim Taylor uncles of the same children! My two oldest children are married. My oldest, Annie, has just received her Masters Degree. She teaches at a university in Portland Oregon. My second child, Crystal, is married and lives in Houston, Texas. She has three children, Riley, Brandi, and Megan. My two boys are now 25 (Brad) and 21 (Brett). These two never ...Expand for more
really got too involved in team sports but are the most incredible water and snow skiers. Brad and Brett perform aerial stunts on wake and snow boards. They never leave Janice and me with a 'dull moment'! I am now selling real estate with Probe Realtors. I really enjoy what I do now. I was able to put together a land deal last spring (2007) which is called River Ridge Estates. This year I pretty much finished up a project I have been working on for the past decade. I wrote a book titled 'Dealing with Goliath'. This book is based around what transpired in 1969. It was both the best and worst times of my life. The book is a tribute to my family during a challenging situation. The main theme of the book is to 'never give up'. Janice and I are now 'empty nesters'. We enjoy traveling. We spent almost two months out of town this past year. We love to ride roller coasters and any other wild rides in amusement parks. We also spend a lot of time at a family cabin at Bear Lake (Idaho). We love to boat and ride our wave runners. Riding ATV's up in the mountains is also a favorite pastime. I am the webmaster for our bartonfamily website. The website keeps my eight sibling and their families up to date on each others lives. It is a fun and interesting job keeping in close touch with especially my nieces and nephews. So far, life is great. It does not come with challenges. For the most part my family is healthy. That is the best blessing anyone can ask for. Everything else seems to fall in place. Life is GREAT! Love to hear from anyone from the 'past'! Dave Barton
