Dave's Story
Life
My Spouse
I met my wife - now married 17 years - at Racquet South in Savannah. She worked there and I spent most of my evening time there. By the time I found out that she didn't play raquetball - it didn't matter.
My Kids
I have two great kids that remind me of exactly what I put my parents through. My oldest wants to be an engineer and my youngest just a kid. I wish them both success.
My Job
I have worked with the City of Savannah Fire Department for 23 years. To say being a firefighter is rewarding is a serious understatement. Being a firefighter has given me the opportunity to explore my adventurous side and at the same time challenged my distain for "routine".
Military
I joined the Navy right after graduation from high school in 1972. THough life wa...Expand for more
s good at home, I want to travel around and see the world, so off to San Diego. I had somewhat of a culture shock being raised in a small SOuthern town. After bootcamp, I spent 6 months on Treasure Island, then received a transfer to the East Coast. My first ship was the Saratoga (CV-60). That was a great experience, too. From the cold of the Portsmouth Shipyards to a shakedown cruise to Gitmo; a Med Cruise and short visit to Turkey and Christmas in Palma. From the Sara, I went to the Bigelow (DD942). Another Med Cruise, a second Christmas in Palma, a short vist to Yugoslavia, and a great 10 days in Barcelona. I have get a loose connection with a few of my shipmates, but not a many as I would like. It's amazing how formative a part of my life those four short years were.
