Dave's Story
Came from Victoria in Aug 1959. Only attended Ross Shep for one year, 59-60. Was in Mr Tarlton’s home room. Can recall Roy, Dick, Jeff and Doug. Can recall some Gr 11 girls: Marj Jones, Marj, Lila and Gail. Played the trumpet at football games.
Left Edmonton in Feb 1962. Attended UBC in Vancouver 1962-67 and returned to the UNTD program, becoming a SLt in 1965. Transferred from the naval reserve in HMCS DISCOVERY to the regular navy in June 1967. Served in HMC Ships, FORT ERIE, CORNWALLIS, BONAVENTURE and STADACONA. Returned home in 1977 for two years in CFB Borden, ON; one year at Comcordia U, Montreal; and six years with the Air Force, Trenton, On. In 1986 became Detachment Commander for the Iroquois Class update program in Toronto and moved back to Esquimalt in 1993. Visited 26 countries and Retired in 1996.
Have written two books on naval history: Canadian Warship Name and Designs of Distinction, plus various articles on simliar subjects. Have been a volunteer at the local Naval and Military Museum in CFB Esquimalt since 1994.
Live in a six sided house with two cats and original wife; married 57 years.
