Dave's Story

This is a lot like - what I did over my summer vacation. After HS I tired of school and had no interest collage, I was considering VoTech. The NDSU Collage of Engineering sent me a letter informing me that they had received my PSAT scores and I was accepted to the collage of Engineering, but that I still needed to send in an application to the University. I tossed the letter. A couple of days later the machine I was operating ate the shirt I was wearing. When I got home I retrieved the application to NDSU. I completed the 5 year program in 4 (what else is there to do in Fargo ND in the winter). I have had a good career Electrical Engineer. The company and group I worked with in the 80s is long gone but department still gets together a couple of times a year. I worked for a Telecommunications company were I was part of the team that developed DSL. I designed the test system and test methodology for DSL. I changed to medical devices. Were I designed several test systems and worked on technologies to enable Pace Makers to treat conditions like syncope. Spending some time working in CO, AZ and Switzerland. One day I received a call from Seagate wanting me to go to work for their Research & Development Department. I was not very interested in changing companies but I did agreed to meet with some of there management. I showed up in blue jeans and a dress shirt no tie. A few days later I was working for Seagate. I have received a few patents but beyond those I am not able to say much about my work. I should...Expand for more
have taken a few more classes on quantum physics. With my free time I have built two Airplanes and was the test pilot for both. One airplane one forth place at the largest air show in north America. I have flown air spot for an auto race with Indy legion Roger Ward as my copilot. I have taken up racing cars. I received my high-speed competition license about 10 years ago. We (the crew and I) have won several division championships in road racing. I remarried in 2000. After a year of searching and four months of negotiating we purchased a commercial building and two empty lots in South Minneapolis. After moving in to one of the one bedroom apartments, Minneapolis zoning granted us conditional zoning to use one of the commercial spaces as part of our residence. We then built a steel staircase from the old café to the apartment, turning the apartment in to a bedroom suit. We gutted the commercial space and rebuilt it as one large open space with a kitchen , living and library area. In 2006 we opened our own business in the other commercial space in the building. A year after opening Gray's Leather Noelle decided to leave her job at the U of M and manage the store full time. This allowed us to expand the store hours. ************************************************************************************************ As of Dec. 17, 2010 I have retired. We are working on moving to our ocean front home on the island of Caye Caulker in Belize. If all gos well we will be moving to Belize in the fall of 2011.
