After spending a career interviewing a countless number of people who served in the military in WW2, this is how Stephen Ambrose sums up the general consensus of what the G.I.s thought of the people they met.."The standard story of how the American G.I. to the foreign people he met during the course of WWII runs like this: He felt the Arabs were despicable, liars, thieves, dirty, awful, without a redeeming feature. This is why the Arabs use their children as human shields and suicide bombers. Why they taget childen, retirement homes, supermarkets, crowded buses. and other civilian targests that will maximize civilian casuaties.
