Dave's Story
Life
Been busy since High School. Did 4 years in the Navy. Two in Holy Loch, Scotland on the USS Holland and two on the USS Frank Cable in Charleston, SC. Worked as pipefitter in shipyards in Charleston, SC for a year, went back in the Navy for another 4 where I was stationed in San Diego on the USS Fresno. Got out again in 86 as an HT1. Got married to Karen in 1985, and moved with her to Australia in 1987 for a couple of years where we had Ian in 1989. Came back and settled in San Diego, went to Jr. College, then moved to San Luis Obispo, CA and got my B.S. in Ecology in 1994. Moved to Camarillo, CA and worked for an environmental consulting firm for 8 years. Had a heart attack at 43, then quit my job and started my own consulting business 10 years ago. All went well, but my past employer begged me to come back and made me an offer I couldnt refuse so I just recently went back to work for them. Ian graduated last June from U of A and is now living in Phoenix working for Yelp.com. Also found my son David from Scotland this past year and brought him and my two grandkids here for a 3 week visit and had a fantastic time.
I would love to hear from anyone from Holland's 3rd Division (The infamous flying squad). Went to a Frank Cable reunion Summer '06. There was a good turnout and we all had a great time reconnecting. Anyone from the Fresno (82-86) out there?
Military

tland on the USS Holland for 2 years then transferred to the USS Frank Cable for two years. Got out, went to work as a shipyard pipefitter in Charlston, SC. Economy went bad, shipyard closed down and I went with some psychotic woman to Seattle where we ditched each other. Wound up homeless (literally - sleeping on the park bench and everything) for a couple of months and went back in. Wound up on the USS Fresno for another 4 years. Got to do a few WESPACs, saw and did lots of fun things. Got married in 85 to Karen, who is a nurse. Got out again in 86. We moved to Sydney Australia for a couple of years where we had my son Ian in 89. Came back to San Diego in mid-89 where I enrolled in Jr. College. Got an AA then transferred to San Luis Obispo where I went to Cal Poly and got my degree in Ecology and Systematic Biology. Moved to Camarillo, CA. Worked for a consulting firm for seven years. Had a heart attack in 2001. Wake up call.... Quit my job and started my own consulting company. Been doing great since. More money and less work. Best way to go. Been a few years since any update! Another frickin heart attack July 2010, but all is well. Recovered pretty quickly this time. Took a break and went to Wyoming for two weeks of hunting, fishing, and just relaxing. Great time. Wife Karen is doing great and working for the County Public Health Dept.
