Daveda's Story
Daveda moved from the Bronx to Long Island, NY with her husband in 1971. There, they raised their three children. Daveda is widowed since 1996.
Schools attended: William Howard Taft High School 410, Jan.1956. While raising her children she attended Suffolk Community College (general studies), Dowling College, Oakdale, NY (B.A.Special Education, Psychology), C.W. Post, L.I.U. (Masters Health Care Administration, Community Mental Health), University of New York at Stony Brook {graduate study in Social Work and Sociology)
Work experience: Social work in psychiatric aftercare. Vocational rehabilitation and counseling with physically and mentally challenged clients.
Grassroots voluntary political work in Public Health and Safety: Opposing the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant, helping to get it shut down. Drafting and lobbying for the first Public No Smoking Proposal in Suffolk County, New York, which was enacted into law in 1984 by the Suffolk County Legislature. moker's right to breathe clean air,unpolluted by tobacco smoke. Nassau County, NY, New York State and New Jersey followed with similar version of no smoking legislation. Various states of the eastern seaboard and little by little, the rest of the country followed suit. I feel privileged to have contributed to this
effort, which eliminated smoking in the work place, restaurants, shopping malls, hair salons, banks, hospitals, health care facilities, retail establishments, movie theaters and numerous other places, and by default, has benefited the health of smokers who have been forced to sharply reduce consumption of cigarettes. This work, prior to 1984 and even into the early years of the no smoking in public places movement, was very controversial and met with much opposition. I'd like to think that by now, I can talk about it and get some favorable responses, LOL.
The greatest blessings of my life are my three children and six grandchildren.
I would love to reconnect with old friends from high school and college.
