David Argoff's Story
I went from FHS to Brandeis University where I majored in English and Languages. From there to UCLA graduate school in linguistics, then finishing the Ph.D. at U C Berkeley. Having grown up surrounded by Finns in Fitchburg, I took a great interest in Finnish and spent two years in Helsinki, doing my thesis research on how Finnish children learn their native language as compared with what English-speaking children do. After Berkeley I took a job as a research director for a sociolinguistic research project sponsored by the Irish government, and we lived in Dublin for nearly four years.
Subsequently, I returned to the US and took ...Expand for more
up a position as a language training supervisor, and, later, associate dean at the State Department's Foreign Service Institute/National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, VA. I retired in 2008.
As I write this in 2016, Jeanne and I have been married 47 years, and we have one daughter who lives in San Diego with her husband and her two young children. We still live in Falls Church, VA, with vague plans to move to Southern California some time in the near-ish future.
Skipping to 2019: we moved to San Diego last year to be near the family and grandkids. Loving the city and the area, and, of course, the great weather.
