David's Story

Life The Stardust is closing by the end of this year! I guess I will need to find another job! I was at the Stardust for the past 8 and a half years. It was kind of like a home! Got a job with another Boyd gaming property called the Suncoast. It caters to the local crowds. It is more layed back since it is not on the strip. Time will tell! :) Well, the gaming business is a thing of the past now! Glad to be through with it and on to the next chapter. It was getting really really old! It was good money and it allowed me to support myslef. I have switched careers now and I am driving 18 wheelers. That's right. Me behind 80 thousnad pounds of metal :) I like it so I suppose this is what I will do until I retire. I don't have to deal with sooo many bosses lon a day to day basis:) School I finally graduated from college in 1983 out of UNLV. I keep going to school and learning. I received my A+ certification to fix computers about 5 years ago. Of course that was when the .com thing ended. I just build and repair my own computer now. Once in a while I fix somebodys. Always for free tho:) Have had my real estate liscense a couple of times. Twice was just to make sure sales suck:( I attended 4 different community colleges before settling in at UNLV here in Las Vegas. I have been to school to do taxes a couple of times and prepared returns for cash. If you can believe that! College Let's see now, I attended COS my senior year. I attended Shasta College for a semester in 1974. I attended El Camino JC in Torrance Ca. in 1975-77. I thought I wanted to be an accounting major. I even worked at Magnavox in accounts receivable for a year. I could close the boo...Expand for more
ks.Went to bartending school (that counts doesn't it?) In 1980 I moved to Las Vegas to attend UNLV. I recieved my BS in Hotle & Restaraunt Admin. with a minor in Casino Mgmt. I can't believe I spent that much money learning how to do an 8$/hr job!!Good grief, what was I thinking? Well, school will never be over for me 'cus I like to keep leaning new things. It's what makes life exciting for me! :) Workplace I have been working in casinos now for the past 20 years. I have worked harder (at home) for less:) In gaming dealers usually change jobs a few times until they can get in a house where the money is enough and you can stand the company and people you work for!! I have been dealing in Las Vegas for about 9 years. I worked for H&R Block and Rainbow Income Tax Servic preparing taxes since 1985. I am preparing to do taxes again this coming season. Who knows, it could be what I use to supplement my income in retirement? :) You know, cash and carry! Well superbowl sunday was my last day in the casino industry! I fired my employer!! Yeah! I am driving otr or 18 wheelers! That could be me in that semi :) Be carefull now') Military I enlisted in the airforce for a 4year hitch. After washing out of tech school in Ms. I ended up at Travis afb in Ca. Long story short I ended up in the welding shop. I was able to get transfered over seas and landed in England where I became a certified aircraft welder. I should have been there 2 years but after 1yr. I was called to the commander's office and notified that I could be discharged if I wanted to; full benefits, no reserve time. Hell, I couldn't pas that deal up! The Vietnam conflict was winding down that year.
