David's Story
David Buettner class of '79. I am married to Linda and am the father of Michael. We live in Cool, CA a Northern California foothill community located in ElDorado County above Sacramento.
I am a Registered Nurse specializing in Emergency Nursing. I have recently completed what I hope is my final college degree, a Masters of Science from UC San Francisco and obtaining my Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification in Critical Care and Trauma nursing. Working as a nurse is very rewarding, but I have to admit that I gave up nightshift nursing after 16 years when I finally fell asleep while driving and made a small mess of our VW Jetta. Apparently I wasn't the Superman I thought I was.
While being a nurse, I don't limit my duties to my primary employer. I joined a National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) and have served in deployments to Hurricaine Katrina in August of 2005, the firestoms of Southern California of October 2007, and I'm fresh back from a deployment to Houston from Hurricane Ike. As I said before, nursing is very rewarding; but when the patients cannot come...Expand for more
to you, you have to go to the patients.
Spending time with my family is extremely important to me. I like driving, and that makes going places an adventure. We have driven back and forth across the country, with many of those visits being to South Dakota. I must admit that if I had to pick my favorite activity of all, it would be doing something with or anything for my wife Linda. We enjoy dating even though it has been 24 years now since we were married. If you're wondering, I met her at my best friend's senior recital in college.
As a family we are very active in a small local church. I still play bass guitar and participate in worship most Sundays. My biggest music accomplishment to date was to play bass on a live worship CD recorded back in 2000. There's isn't anything that can beat the fun and excitement of playing in a big band.
I enjoy life more than you can imagine, and make it down to Stockton every now and then. I made it to the class reunion back in 1989, but somehow was not contacted or was MIA for a class reunion in 1999. I hope that someone looks me up for any reunion activities in 2009.
