David's Story
Life
I got into radio in 1974 with the help of my high school English teacher, Jerry Bass, who was working at KFDF in Van Buren. I began working at KCCL in Paris, Arkansas in 1974 and '75, and KLCO-FM Poteau from 1975 to 1978, and at KISR in Ft. Smith from 1977 to 1983. During those years I was also drinking and doing drugs. In 1983, I surrendered to Jesus Christ and experienced an instant deliverance from the drugs and alcohol. I resigned my position at KISR in September of '83 and began doing some Christian broadcasting at KFSA. Between 1987 and 1993 I worked at KPHN (95 Alive) in Barling and again at KFSA, then began working at KZKZ (Spirit 106.3) in Ft. Smith in 1993, where I continue to do the Morning Show ...Expand for more
and other duties. My wife's name is Christine. We married in '85. She does computer IT work and is definitely the brains in this family. I'm very fortunate to have her as my wife. We have 3 cats, but no kids. It's been great to see my classmates in past reunions in Paris. Many have had their lives changed through the Power of God, and that's exciting to me. I never have been to any kind of Stamps school reunion, but I'd like to. I visited Jimmy Dean (one of the original members of Wesley and the Gars) in 1986, but lost track of him. And, I've been able to visit two of my former Stamps teachers, Bill and Ellen Hanson, and occasionally I visit with my Paris English teacher and broadcasting mentor, Jerry Bass.
