David's Story

Where have you been since high school? Mentally and emotionally, I left high school in 1963, my sophomore year when I was accepted into a few first tier colleges. My father refused to allow me to go to college despite it was a free ride. He said that I was too young, he was correct, but I didn¿t know that then. I was never really free until I went to Cornell University. I started as a math and chemistry double major and was a starter for the Ivy League Championship team. I had to drop the sport due to a HS injury. While in college, I fell in love with the fine arts and architecture, a pure arts and science profession. For fun, I started to do ¿stand-up¿ comedy. Also, in 1965, because I could not spell, I wrote a ¿teco¿ (text editing character oriented) program on the computer. My introduction into the world of computers is a fun story by itself. In 1969, I graduated in South East Asia Studies (SEA). Since I only sleep four to six hours a night, I had a second life of ¿sex, drugs and rock-an-roll. I had a lot of fun and near trouble. During summer of 1968, I was in SF-Berkeley- Haight-Ashbury. My experience was incredible. Since I sing like a ¿bull frog being impaled on a dull stake,¿ R&R was out, stand-up was my key. A member of the ¿Flying Circus¿ invited me to visit them during the summer of 1969, which I did. Lots of sex and drugs¿ Now that I am much older, I can only do one of the three things, no drugs or R&R. After college, the Government offered me a job opportunity that I could not refuse. You might be surprised how few people know SEA and computer visualization. While positioned near Princeton, on my off hours, I did stand-up comedy in some small cafes in NYC and NJ. Travel: I bicycled across the US from Norfolk, VA, to Ithaca, NY to San Francisco, CA. It was therapeutic. I¿ve been to Asia, (China and SEA), Europe, a tiny part of South America and the Cari...Expand for more
bbean. As an itinerant carpenter, my first ex and I (and dogs) traveled across the US several times in my One Ton IH. Ex¿s: All my ex¿s are red heads from Nebraska. My first was a fashion model and an heiress. When she left me, she said that she had been with me for four years and one semester of architecture and that was one semester too long. She later went to Harvard and became an executive for TI. My second was/is a fantastic 3-D artist and taught gourmet cooking. We were together for 22 years with two children. She is now the director of a ¿New Media Center¿ for a state University. Pets: I¿ve had two bearded collies. Both lived to about 18 years. The first dog was named ¿Lincoln,¿ since neither my first ex¿s nor I knew much about exotic dogs, we named his breed based on what he did (long story). He was an Italian Mud Spaniel to us. While in Tenn, he did regional theater and TV commercials and earned an ¿Actor¿s Equity Card.¿ On his assumed birthday, I always served him spaghetti which made the front page of a local news paper. Whereas, Lincoln was very smart and responsive, my next beardy, ¿Patrick,¿ was beautiful but dumb. He got near 100 ACK points and was a good herder but would not take direction. Children: Well, I had a good egg donor (my second). My eldest, Brett Anna, is practicing IP lawyer and a restaurant critic in the DC area. My youngest, Clare Olivia is a freshman at UCDavis carrying just a hair shy of a 4.0. She wants to be an international attorney for the UN. Me: I¿m an architect. I worked construction in high school, college and after my rehabilitation (i.e. the bicycle trip and other things). I have won some awards for my architectural design. My most notable was the AWI 2000 award for one of the six best religious building in America. Also, I am a published author, a former professor and an inventor of unique computer visualization programs.
