David's Story

It is now 2016 and my wife, Lynn, and I have been living in Scottsdale, Arizona for 21 years. I was transferred here from New York City in 1995 when the company I worked for was bought by American Express. My office was in mid-town Manhattan so moving to the Phoenix area was quite a big change. But, big company politics and bureaucracy were not for me so I left Amex after a couple of years to work as the CFO of a small manufacturing company. I am no longer with them but am still active as s business finance adviser to small and medium sized companies, and nonprofits as well, and get a lot of enjoyment in helping them grow and succeed. The nice thing about this role is that I can work as much or little as I want. And, I seem to be respected and appreciated. But, honestly, I think that's only because I'm old (although I don't feel old at all and, actually am still in pretty good health). My children from my previous marriage to Wanda live in Detroit and Indianapolis. We don't get to see them nearly as much as we like but Bryan and his two children will be here in a few weeks. Jennifer, my daughter, has 3 children so that is 5 grandchildren altogether. Lynn and I love seeing Bryan & Jennifer and the grand kids whene...Expand for more
ver we can, We are big baseball fans and have been season ticket holders for the Diamondbacks for several years. Sometimes we travel to "away" games. Since being in the West I have learned to scuba dive and fly. Those were kind of "bucket list" adventures. When I first graduated from Miami University in 1969 I was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the Air Force and served 4 years on active duty then another 19 in the reserves before retiring. It is amazing how that part of my life has led to so many new friends with whom I have military service in common. I know I should retire for good one of these days but my life is full and Lynn, who is about 11 years younger than me, is still working at a job she loves. So, I guess I may as well stay busy but, a 40 hour work week??? No, I don't think so. I love my family and all the many friends I have made over the years and wish peace and happiness to everyone. I was at our 50th high school anniversary not too long ago and was really touched by how many of "us" were there. It made me feel great and also grateful that I got to see so many old friends who have remained my friends these many years. Well, I guess that's my story. Thank you for this opportunity to share it.
