David's Story
Life
I am 46 and retired. I spent 22 years of my life serving my country in the US Navy. I graduated from Bradshaw High in 1981.
My retirement was not voluntary; I would have stayed in the Navy for 30 years but I injured my back and neck severely during an accident at sea and had to have spine surgery several times to remove ruptured disks and fuse vertebras that were broken. I now have four titanium plates in my back and two in my neck, and consider myself lucky to be alive and able to walk.

I am able to make it on my pension and the 100% disability that the VA gives me. My wife of 23 years, who is a RN, decided she did not want to take care of me with my medical problems so she split. Its funny, I pay for her education so she can get her nursing degree and I support her for 20 years as the sole provider, so she can stay home and raise our daughter and now that I cannot work and she does not want to support me. I may be a little bitter towards her but I think I have the right to be.
