David's Story

My life story? Well, to quote the Grateful Dead, "what a long strange trip it's been"... After graduating from The Citadel, I worked for the SC Comptroller General for a little over 5 years before deciding that dealing with accounting was NOT for me. So I pursued a career dealing in one interest I have had since childhood (firearms) and another interest I developed in college (law enforcement). I was blessed to have the opportunity to go to work at SLED in 1990 as an agent assigned to the position of firearm and tool marks examiner (what is commonly known as a "ballistics expert" to those that like TV shows like Forensic Files...). And that is what I am doing today, 18 years after starting that career. The only thing different is that I switched to the Richland County...Expand for more
Sheriff's Department in 2002 when they needed someone to come aboard and start their own firearms lab for the Forensics Division. I spend my days examining guns, bullets, and such, staring through a microscope, and testifying in court. I do love my job... and being a law enforcement officer. On a more personal level, I am married to a great lady named Sandy, and have two great (step) kids, both boys (14 and 19). We live in Lexington, and have the typical suburbian life, without the SUV. I still enjoy getting outdoors to follow my hunting and fishing interests, and like to dabble in photography and scuba diving. So, looking back, I feel that a lot has changed from the time that I was a skinny, somewhat nerdy, and low-profile kid in high school. But it's been a fun ride.
