David's Story
Life
OK. So my life in 4000 characters or less. Went to university. Got a Queen's Commission (Infantry). My younger brother, Gordie, who some of you knew, was killed in a car crash in 1974. He was hitchhiking back from a rock concert in Winnipeg across the TransCanada and just got picked up by the wrong car. Four people were killed including two young twin brothers, children of the driver and another hitchhiker, a young American kid. Apparently a local politician was in the other car DUI. Naturally he survived and didn't get charged. My mother never really got over it. Four lives lost, one marriage (the parents of the children) and a premature death, all because of an idiot with local influence. Life can suck!! Had two careers focusing on marketing and sales: one in consumer durables (Appliances) and the second in Utilities (Ontario Hydro/ OPG). I was their VP of Marketing and Sales for the last ten years of my career. Retired in 2002. Lived in Toronto for most of my adult life then moved to Mount Forest (north of Guelph) after I retired. I had three children (girl, boy, girl) with my first wife, all married. The two girls live in California. The eldest sells expensive real estate in San Diego. The youngest is a financial analysis in San Fran. My son is an IT consultant .. that first Commadore 6...Expand for more
4 paid off. All are doing well and seem happy. The youngest just had her first, a daughter, in the summer of 2006 while my son has a 3 year old girl. That makes me a granddaddy times two.The picture is of me and my second wife at our Toronto home about 4 years ago. I do a bit of consulting, woodworking (Canon Rhode's classes paid off) and gardening plus reading (thanks Mr. Elliot). I love making and fixing things whether it's wood or the front end of businesses. So that's 45 years in 1323 characters ... and that's all she wrote. Oh, and Sleepy Carruther's, my very special guidance counsel, told me to quit school and become a truck driver because I was wasting everyone's time and would never amount to anything. At that point I probably was but thank God for the Granny Stewarts and Wild Bill Elliots of this world, otherwise we'd have too many truck drivers!! Ok, so that's an extra 464 characters in acknowledgement of some great teachers.
Regards,
Dave C.
P.S.
Since I originally wrote this I see that Classmates has added spell check. Thank God! I never did learn to type so I've corrected so earlier errors. Also my son had another daughter and my youngest is expecting a boy in a couple of weeks. Life goes on. I would like to hear from any of my old classmates if they have the time or interest.
