David's Story

Life One Wife, two boys, two daughter-in-laws, two grand babies, a dog, a cat, a house, a rent house, two mortgages, blah, blah, blah.... Palo Duro High School Amarillo Junior College, 1 year: Moody Bible Institute, 3 years: Trinity College, 1 year (BA, Biblical Studies): Southwestern Seminary, 3 years (MDiv): Various Chaplains' training while in the US Navy, including Chaplains' School) This is the kicker.....Watch repair, 3 days intensive hands on training on diagnosis and repair or replacement of quartz watch parts. Three days intense hands on training on mechanical watch repair. Basically, 6 days of training netted me a certificate as a Quartz Watch Technician and a Certified Master Horologist. All of the basics were taught, but believe me; I have learned a great deal on my own since the class, so add....CHM..and it is a terrific trade. Oh, my Jewish teacher-no criticism intended for I love Israel and the Jewish people-netted several hundred dollars and it has been worth every penny. I pastored two churches, one in Missouri and the First Baptist Church in Wheeler, Texas. In 1983 I was commissioned a navy officer and served on active duty for three years as a Chaplain. Reserve duty took me to a few places around the world, once to Bermuda, once to Hawaii, twice to Iceland and also California, Florida and Texas. Since release from active duty, I have served churches in Virginia and retired nearly three years ago after 25 years in Christian ministry. In 1974 I married Linda Marie Ward of Louisville, KY. She was a graduated music student and studying at the Chicago Conservatory when we met. She has two degrees, including a Master of Music degree. She could have made ...Expand for more
us rich if she had chosen to sing for the world, but she has always kept her music in the church and she has sung difficult musical pieces of Opra, Mosart, etc. including the soprano parts of Handle's Messiah. She has always been a dedicated mother to our two sons and a loving faithful wife. She is a good friend and caring woman. I started playing banjo seriously, finally, in 1973 after I found a decent banjo with a wide neck in a pawn shop in Trinidad, Colorado. Earl's Scruggs and the 5 string banjo was my teaching book and it took hours upon hours of practice to learn banjo. My son, Nathan is an accomplished guitarist. I have always said that if I could have learned banjo as fast as he learned guitar, I probably would increased to a higer degree of accomplishing the instrument. My son, Christopher, is a mathmatician. He eats up mathmatic figures and calculations like kids devouring candy. He also is just learning to play bass for the praise band at his father-in-law's church in Pittsburgh, PA. I bought Watch, Pen and Pencil in October, 2003 and renamed the store simply Watch and Pen, to keep from encroaching upon the business name of the former owners and for retaining a continuity in business identification after the purchase. Within six months my oldest son came to work for me and we have built up the business and developed a living business plan to keep on the cutting edge of business. We have a web site and the watch repair side of the business has grown to where it is keeping me ragged, busy, busy, busy. No website is allowed to be posted, but it is one very easy to find with the key words of the business name. Regards to those still on the journey of life, dlcooper
