David's Story

Life Growing up in Lower Merion (Narberth) was a time I will never forget. I think out of all my friends my home life was the most stablest, probably why I always had at least 10 friends in my room during the weekend. Not that any of my friends parents were bad and actually, some of them were pretty cool. By the time we reached high school, my room up on the third floor allowed us well...frankly...do whatever the hell we wanted. I remember certain smells have always reminded me of certain days be it summer, winter, spring or fall. The nostaglic smells of summer nights at the Mann Music to Winter days walking over to Tom Bowens house...talk about a trek. I really can't imagine changing anything the way my friends and I grew up. Our class at Bala Cynwyd was named "the worst class" thats ever gone through that school. We were told not to return...we did. But in our defense, I don't think we were all that bad, I think we were just bored. Going from Middle School to High School separated, divided, catagorized, popularized everyone. The nuiances of a larger picture of our world laid ahead & I don't think Lower Merion was ready for us. We all forged ahead through freshmen and sophmore year. Sometime between December and January of our Sophmore year, some us took a slight turn. The group formerly known as Damage Inc. was born. This group of boys defied the limits the perception of partying. They took their minds and souls from sanity to insanity and back, time and time again. The 2 Weekend Dead Show...probably the last show JFK Stadium every entertained such a huge majestic concert. Ed and Rob walked...let me say again...WALKED, from JFK Stadium to my house. They got there at 4 in the morning. They have spent all their money on the goodies at the Dead Show that they forgot they needed money to get home. At least they had happy trails during their voyage. The cheap Friday nights consumng Old German or the Beast during our many nights under the bridge allowed...Expand for more
us to really get to know how crappy that beer really was. It was time when we all started to really get to know each other and we all started to grow up into our own. New faces started to emerge from other groups, Dave Serota, Walter & Charles Yang (two of the most deliquent asians I have every met), Anthony Kaerabek, Jacin Espinet...faces come into mind but names have been long forgotten. It's odd that some people you have known for over a decade you cannot recall their names. My ever changing room had always been a place to crash, a place to eat and a place where good friends can relax and play a game of Risk, Batgammon or Monopoly. We devoured our young lives, we all knew time was against us and our carefree lives would end eventually. But for the time being we lived every moment for our next adventure. And we had many adventures and some how we lived through some of them without ending up in a hospital or in a morge. Senior year was probably the most boring year we have had. But we made sure we went out with a bang as usual. But it was also a time when our adventures were coming to an end. Friends went to colleges and some didn't. Some moved away and some just stayed right where they are. I look back now, 15 years later, I still can recall the memories and the details of our progression into adult hood. I guess these are the memories we hold onto so we won't forget where we came from and who affected our lives. Sometimes looking back at your past, makes you feel whole again in this ever changing life. Its weird that I do not feel any different when I was a teenager. I just have more responsiblilities (kids, family, finances, morgages, job, etc). Maybe thats a good thing, always having a young heart. So this bio must end and I guess I need to be current. I graduated college, a half year early, just like highschool. Got married to a California girl (O.G. from south Philly), have two kids and a great job. So the adventure continues.
