David's Story

What have I been up to for the past 30 years.... A note for all those ' Long lost Friends'  Monday, June 15, 2009 at 10:30am I've been a professional Singer/Guitarist for the past 25+ years. It's had its good moments. I play several high end venues in Park City and Snowbird, Utah. I also play many private engagements for the rich and famous throughout the country. Not as glamourous as it sounds, but it ain't bad either. It beats the old garage band days of my 20's. I started a new career of being a motorcycle instructor. Started out part-time as a side job. Fell in love with the work and am starting to gravitate to doing that and letting the music thing dwindle a bit. I also am professionally a SCUBA Divemaster/ Instructor / Master Scuba Diver Trainer. I don't have a lot of work in that here in Utah, but I take a few folks here and there out to dive destinations. This is more an addiction than a job. I was a Remodeling Contractor in my late 20's / early 30's, with some building maintenance jobs in between and in my teens. Went back to school at nearly 50 to start doing Home inspections. Retirement work? I am retired from the military (VA) I served in both the Army (Heavy Equipment Operator - 1457th Eng Batt.) and in the Navy (Signalman- aboard the USS Enterprise) they both were short stints as I was only in the Army for my training for National Guard. I was able to transfer to the Navy from the Guard. (You can always transfer from a reserve component to an active duty one). I got a kidney disease in the Philippines so they retired me from the Navy. I was supposed to be dead according to them sometime in my 20s. Didn't happen. Still a disabled vet, but I'm the healthiest 'sick' person I know. Oddly enough, 2 years of service, 1 West Pac, Traveled the world, 2 boot camps, 2 technical schools (top of my classes), 4 honorable discharges and 1 medical retirement. It was a good way to kill a couple of years from 17 to 19. I spent 6 years in College (U. of Utah and S.L. Comm. College) getting out with a degree in Graphic Design/Photography/Compute r Graphics. I was a Theater-Major, Music-Minor for 3 of those years. I went on a grant from the Vets Administration. I have been married to my wife (Terri) for over 28 years (1981). We have one child between us ( Jojo - circa. 1980 ). We are both still madly in love and love being with each...Expand for more
other. Second marriage for both of us, but we got it right the second go round. My first was only 3 weeks... stupid 19 year-old. I have a few kids who are all doing well and many more 'adopted' kids that call me 'Dad' and 'Grandpa' My son Jojo lives in San Diego. Teaches at UCSD for high school students in the performing arts. He is a professional musician like myself. Pretty successful at it. He also produces films independently. more like documentaries and training films. My adopted Daughter, Cassie is married and lives nearby. She interprets (Sign Language) for the deaf. She is also a professional photographer. That is also sort of following in my footsteps as I was a professional photographer and one of my college 'Majors' is in Photography. She met the man of her dreams while we were all working at an orphanage in Mozambique, Africa. Jacob Ulasich... An American from Minnesota. Great guy. She and her husband Jake will be having a child in Feb 2010. They have just bought a house within 2 miles of ours. So I'm hoping this means they will stay in Utah for awhile. My God Daughter, Angelina and her 4 children live with me and my wife. I am the only father figure she's ever had and same with her children. But, It looks like she will be marrying the guy of her dreams in 2010. Named Josh Carter. He and his 2 kids will be moving in April of 2010. I like this guy. Dazey (Shara Darcey Bah) has lived with us in the past is now married to a wonderful man from Africa named Ebrima (Ebu) Bah. They just bought a house nearby and have 3 wonderful kids who call me grandpa. The plan is to have more. Spiritually, I am actively of the Christian faith, but not church or denominationally bound or involved. My family and myself have dabbled in some 'missionary' activities. We as a family spent a month in Mozambique Africa to help relocate and rebuild an orphanage (Where Cassie met Jake) Terri has been going to Mexico with an outreach group in the Summers. One of my Grand Daughters (Selah) went with her this year. Both my Son Jojo and Daughter Cassie have spent time doing work in India, Africa and South America. For the most part though, my family and myself are not 'Church' people. but we are GOD people. if that makes any sense. well... that's the 'Good Stuff' synopsis hope thats not TMI but it's difficult to round up 30 years in a blog entry. peace
