David Halso:

CLASS OF 1972
Atlanta, GA
Athens, GA

David's Story

Well, after some 42 years of on-and-off again living in the Atlanta area, it's time to bid a final farewell to the Big Peach. We moved here from Los Angeles, California, in February of 1967, settling in the Avondale High School district in Avondale Estates. I was supposed to have gone on and attended Avondale High School in the following Fall. However, four days before classes were to begin, we moved and settled in the SE area of Atlanta and I went to Roosevelt High instead. I've never regretted it. After graduating in '72, I went on to earn a bachelor's degree in journalism (Radio-TV broadcasting) from the University of Georgia in 1976. It was at UGA where I surrendered my heart and life to Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and became involved with the Campus Crusade for Christ college ministry. Following the Lord's new direction for my life, I turned down opportunities to go with ABC television and television announcing jobs at several TV stations around the country in order to attend seminary. I wanted to go in order to study God's word and get to know Him better in my personal relationship with Christ. I never sensed the call from God to enter full-time ministry. Instead, this was more of a personal endeavor in growing and maturing in my walk with Christ. I graduated from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tn., in 1980, with a master's degree in Religion and Education. I went on to fly with Continental Airlines until the late 1990's whereby I lived all over the country including New York City, Washington, D.C., Denver, Co., and Arizona. I was also based in Houston, Tx., although I commuted there for my work while at Continental. I retired early from the airline industry and went to work with the State of Georgia government in '98. te for 10 years now and in a few months, I'll be retiring from them as well. Upon leaving the State of Georgia within these next few months, I have decided to leave Atlanta and Georgia permanently. The Lord is calling me back west...back home....to San Diego, California. I miss the west so much and I miss my family out there as well. I once loved Atlanta, but everything I loved about Atlanta is now GONE WITH THE WIND. Atlanta has changed so much over the years and I hardly recognize it today as the place I grew and came to love. But, God's timing is always perfect and I know in my heart and spirit that His timing for me to leave is now coming into fruition. I'll miss Atlanta and I'll always cherish the memories I've accumulated of this place over the years. They began at Roosevelt High School and how I still miss -- even today -- walking those granite walkways and stairs, going from class to class, talking and seeing my fellow classmates and friends and teachers. "Roll On Ye Crimson Tide!" Wow, it's just so hard to believe that all these many years have passed by. Oh my. Seems so much like yesterday. It makes me feel so sad and melancholic in my heart as I catch myself pining for those golden days of yesteryear. Sigh. I want to wish everyone from Roosevelt the best always, especially my fellow graduates of the class of '72. Perhaps, if God wills, I'd love to see and meet any of you before I go in October. But, if not, I'll settle for my memories and my five beautiful yearbook copies of the Franderoan from '67 to '72 that I'll keep nearby whenever my thoughts turn once again to a place that will always retain a fond and special place in my life and heart: Roosevelt High School and Atlanta, Georgia. Farewell. May the Lord bless all of you...... In Christ, David Halso
