David's Story
David Kapolka taught mathematics for 34 years in Michigan, 9 at the middle school and 25 at the high school level. He was mathematics department chair for 13 years at Forest Hills Northern HS. He also spent 6 years as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Grand Valley State University. He holds a BA in Elem Ed majoring in math and science, an MA in Secondary Mathematics Education, and an MA in Teaching Mathematics. David spent one year working at the National Science Foundation as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow where his main duties were the Presidential Awards Program and evaluating grant proposals for the Teacher Professional Continuum. 1998. David currently works for Key Curriculum Press as a technology product specialist and consultant. David recently completed his 2nd year as an AP Reader for calculus. David is a frequent presenter at state, regional, and national math conferences. His specialty is computer and calculator technology applied to mathematics and learning. David has written many monographs on calculator applications emphasizing parametric equations and recursion. In his classroom, David taught while modeling the appropriate use of technology. Other than the graphing calculator, David feels that Geometer¿s Sketchpad and Fathom completely changed the way math was taught and learned in his classroom.
David currently serves as President of The Council of Presidential Awardees in Mathematics.
