David's Story

After graduating high school, I attended Villanova University and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. While in college, I worked during the summers in the warehouse at Western Electric. I met and married my wife, Mary, during my sophomore year. From 1971 to mid-1980, I worked for General Electric in Philadelphia and at Valley Forge. We lived in the Kingswood Apartments for two years before buying a house in Royersford. We moved to Orlando, FL. in 1980 when I got a job with Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin). We purchased a larger home in Oviedo, FL in 2000 so my mother could move in with us. My mother passed away in 2009 and I retired from Lockheed Martin in 2010. I now spend my time building and flying remote control model airplanes, maintaining the model airplane club website, riding my motorcycle, and taking vacation trips in our RV, when I am not cutting the grass or working around the house. Mary and I had 3 boys (the first 2 before I graduated from college). The boys are all married with families of their own. We also have 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Over the years, we have hosted a few foreign exchange students, at different times. Our first exchange student was a girl from France. She stayed with us during the month of July for 7 consecutive years. The other two girls were from Macedonia. The first attended her senior high school year with us and then returned to attend her first year in college. The second one only stayed with us for her final year in high schoo...Expand for more

Visited Chimney Rock, PA Grand Canyon and Corning Glass museum along the way. Participated in giant scale RC model airplane events in Harrisburg and Quakertown, PA.. Visited parents grave site in K of P to pay respects. Update 11/16/15 - Our 8th grandchild, a boy, was born a few days ago to my middle son, Glenn and his wife, Clementine. Update 03/06/18 - Uploaded a couple of photos. One of my hobbies is building and flying remote control airplanes. I attended a model airplane event in 2015 at the Buc-Le field in PA. This is a photo of me with my scale P47 Thunderbolt model. The second photo is me with my motorcycle at the Sun-n-Fun fly-in in Lakeland, FL. This will be my 8th year volunteering at the event with the Air Side Ground Safety group. Update 3/15/19 - Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with my wife, Mary, on 2/15/19.. We met at a coffee house in Phoenixville, PA during my sophomore year at Villanova in 1968. We celebrated our anniversary by hosting a party at our house.
